On November 2^nd, 2024, China Gas Turbine Conference (CGTC-2024) was successfully held in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. Guided by the Heilongjiang Provincial Association for Science and Technology, and supported by the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited and the Gas Turbine Power Generation Committee of the Chinese Society of Electrical Engineering, the conference was hosted by No. 703 Research Institute of CSSC and the National Energy Gas Turbine Technology R&D (Experimental) Center. It was jointly organized by CSIC Longjiang GH Gas Turbine Co., Ltd.  and Harbin Guanghan Gas Turbine Co., Ltd. Over 300 participants, including academicians, industry leaders, experts, and representatives from more than 50 universities, research institutes, and enterprises worldwide, gathered to explore cutting-edge academic theories, innovative technologies, and practical achievements in the gas turbine and cutting-edge energy equipment fields.

The China Gas Turbine Conference focuses on the hot topics and challenges in the industry, aiming for academic excellence, forward-looking insights, innovation, and guidance. It highlights the latest academic ideas and technological achievements in the gas turbine and related sectors, leading the industry toward new directions. The theme of this year’s conference is “Seeking Truth, Innovating, Facing the Future”, and it includes a series of events such as the opening ceremony, keynote speeches, five thematic sub-forums, and the editorial board meeting of Thermal Power Engineering alongside a symposium on the high-quality development of the journal.

Lin Feng, Chairman of the Conference and President of No. 703 Research Institute, delivered a welcome speech. Lin Feng pointed out that China has attached great importance to scientific and technological innovation and the development of cutting-edge equipment. The rapid advancement in gas turbine research and development, coupled with significantly enhanced manufacturing capabilities, has led to the successful implementation of independent innovation achievements. More and more fields, such as offshore engineering, industrial power generation, distributed energy, and power generation, are now equipped with “Chinese hearts,” strongly safeguarding China’s energy strategic security. In March of this year, the remarkable progress in high-end equipment, including gas turbines, was highlighted in the 2024 State Council Government Work Report. On this challenging and unforgettable journey, the legacy of tradition, the spirit of innovation, the momentum of development, and the power of science have converged in the gas turbine industry, unleashing tremendous energy and propelling China’s gas turbine into a grand voyage.

Zhang Xiaoyan, Vice Chairman of the Heilongjiang Provincial Association for Science and Technology, delivered a speech. Zhang Xiaoyan stated that the Heilongjiang Provincial Association for Science and Technology has always strongly supported the technological development of local research institutions and high-tech manufacturing enterprises. She noted that this conference has gathered top experts in the field of gas turbines from across the country, integrating all elements of industry, academia, research, and application. She described it as the highest-level academic exchange conference in China’s gas turbine field and spoke highly of the event.

This conference invited four academicians, with Weng Shilie and Qiu Zhiming, both academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivering speeches online. Additionally, Deng Jianjun and Chen Yushu, also academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, presented keynote reports (Chen Yushu participated online).

Following the opening ceremony, Lin Feng, President of No. 703 Research Institute, Professor Wen Guangrui of Xi’an Jiaotong University, and Professor Guo Hongbo of Beihang University delivered keynote reports. Five parallel sub-forums addressed critical topics such as aerothermodynamics, heat transfer, combustion science, cycle and control systems, and materials and reliability, featuring over 70 presentations by leading experts that sparked vibrant academic exchanges.

Concurrently, the editorial board meeting of Thermal Power Engineering and a symposium on the high-quality development of the journal were held during the conference.

Moving forward, No. 703 Research Institute will continue to implement the strategy of collaborative innovation in scientific research, adhering to the principle of “Seeking Truth, Innovating, Facing the Future.” By pooling wisdom and resources, fostering joint collaboration, and uniting experts, scholars, and technical professionals in the gas turbine field both domestically and internationally, No. 703 Research Institute aims to create a dynamic environment of nationwide cooperation and coordinated efforts.
